When Sophia started her UBC career she was a sedentary student and became an avid rock-climbing and triathlete. She graduated in 2004, with a Bachelors of Kinesiology. She was introduced to Bikram Yoga at the time she was training to run a full-marathon, when a knee issue prevented her from training. Sophia took the advice of her Bikram Yoga teacher and practiced the yoga series diligently until her event. She changed her race to a half-marathon and completed it at a personal best without injury. This experience ignited her passion to teach others and she completed her Bikram Yoga Teacher Training in Los Angeles in 2006.
Sophia taught at studios all over the lower mainland until 2008, when she took a break from the heat to heal from chronic fatigue. She then worked as a Kinesiologist in a physiotherapy clinic and completed her Reiki Levels 1 and 2 courses.
Sophia has always enjoyed practicing different styles of yoga. After the birth of her daughter and numerous attempts to run, she found the Yin Yoga posture Shoelace relieved tension in her hips and enabled her to run again. She then knew she had found the balance to her yoga practice and teaching. Opportunity came in February 2021, for Sophia to participate in Bernie Clark's Yin Yoga Teacher Training.
Sophia is passionate about teaching and has also been a swim instructor, aquafit instructor and running coach. She meditates daily using the Silva Mind Meditation technique. She is excited to bring all of her experience and knowledge into her Yin yoga classes. When she isn't teaching, Sophia enjoys camping with her family, playing on water, rock or snow and cold-plunging in Lynn Valley.
