We’re excited to welcome Dr. Tia Patychuk, ND to the Naturopathic Doctor team at Local Health Integrative Clinic!
Dr. Tia brings a thoughtful, compassionate and integrative approach to naturopathic medicine, with particular passion for mental health, ADHD, neurodiversity, burnout and hormonal health. She’ll be seeing patients at Local Health on Wednesdays from 3–8 PM, making it easier to access naturopathic care outside of traditional daytime hours.
A Different Way of Looking at Health
For Dr. Tia, healthcare is about more than checking boxes or treating isolated symptoms. She believes in looking at the bigger picture — how the brain, body, hormones, nervous system, nutrition, sleep and life circumstances can all intersect to influence how we feel.
Her approach is trauma-informed, evidence-informed and patient-centred, with an emphasis on creating a space where patients feel heard, respected and involved in their own care. This can be especially meaningful for people who have spent years feeling like their symptoms are disconnected, difficult to explain or simply dismissed.
Dr. Tia understands that health changes don’t always have to be huge to be meaningful. Sometimes the most effective place to start is with finding the changes that are realistic for your life — and building from there.
Passionate About ADHD & Neurodiversity
One of Dr. Tia’s particular areas of focus is ADHD support for adults, including people who are diagnosed later in life.
ADHD can affect far more than attention. Executive functioning, motivation, emotional regulation, sleep, stress and energy can all be part of the picture. And for many adults, particularly those diagnosed later in life, getting an explanation for lifelong patterns can bring both relief and a whole new set of questions.
Dr. Tia brings both professional knowledge and personal understanding to this area of care. She was diagnosed with ADHD as an adult herself, giving her an appreciation for some of the challenges that can come with navigating a world that isn’t always designed with neurodivergent brains in mind.
Her goal isn’t to try to change who someone is. Instead, naturopathic care can explore the factors that may influence how someone experiences ADHD — including sleep, nutrition, stress, hormones and nervous system regulation — while working alongside existing supports such as medication, counselling or other healthcare.
For someone who has been thinking, “Why is everything so much harder than it seems like it should be?”, finding the right kind of support can be a meaningful first step.
Mental Health Support That Looks at the Whole Person
Dr. Tia is also passionate about supporting people with anxiety, depression, chronic stress, burnout and other mental health concerns.
Her approach recognizes that mental health doesn’t exist separately from physical health. Sleep, nutrition, hormonal changes, stress physiology and other aspects of physical wellbeing can all play a role in how we experience our mental and emotional health.
Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, Dr. Tia works collaboratively with patients to understand their individual circumstances and develop a plan that fits their needs and capacity. Her training includes pharmaceutical prescribing, laboratory testing and IV therapy, alongside naturopathic modalities such as nutrition, herbal medicine and other supportive therapies.
And importantly, naturopathic care doesn’t have to mean choosing between approaches. Dr. Tia can work alongside a person’s existing medical and mental healthcare team when appropriate.
A Doctor Who Understands the Importance of Feeling Safe
Another important part of Dr. Tia’s practice is her commitment to creating inclusive healthcare spaces.
She has a particular interest in supporting LGBTQIA2S+ and gender-diverse communities, as well as people from communities who have historically experienced barriers or discrimination within healthcare. Her additional education includes inclusive care and trans primary care.
At Local Health, we believe that good healthcare starts with creating a space where you can be yourself, ask questions and talk openly about what’s going on without fear of judgment. We’re excited to have another practitioner on our team who shares that philosophy.
Beyond ADHD & Mental Health
While ADHD and mental health are central to Dr. Tia’s practice, her clinical interests extend into several interconnected areas of health.
She also works with patients around:
- Hormonal health, including PCOS, PMS and PMDD
- Perimenopause and menopause
- Sleep and insomnia
- Burnout and chronic stress
- Nutritional deficiencies
- Digestive health
- Neurodiversity
- LGBTQIA2S+ and gender-diverse healthcare
She holds a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine from the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine and a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from UBC. She has also completed training in pharmaceutical prescribing, IV therapy and injections, and naturopathic advanced life support.
