Growing up in Vancouver, I was passionate about sports and involved in as many as possible. While my dreams of NFL stardom faded, my interest in helping athletes thrive grew. This led me to pursue a career in physiotherapy, combining my love of sports with my fascination with health and medicine. My own experience with sports injuries further solidified this path.
After completing a B.Sc. in Biotechnology at the University of British Columbia/ BCIT, I went half way across the world to Australia to chase my passion, completing my Doctorate in Physiotherapy at the University of Melbourne in 2015. After nearly a decade of practice, I can honestly say that I know I made the right choice.
Outside of work, I spend most of my “free” time with my two kids (4 and 1 y/o). But when I’m not with the family, you can probably catch me playing dodgeball in the Vancouver Dodgeball League (VDL) or watching football (the dream is faint, but still there!)
My philosophy is simple: Keep rehab simple and effective.
Often we are bombarded with information about convoluted exercises that are meant to “bulletproof” our bodies or are given a three page handout of stretches to do everyday. As a physio, even I know that I probably wouldn’t do them... so why would I give them to my patients? Complex doesn’t necessarily mean better.
My treatment often combines the use of dry needling (FDN level 2), manual therapy, and simple but effective corrective exercises. Although I mention sport injuries, I do love treating other ailments as well including headaches, TMJ, and low back pain just to name a few. You haven’t felt your shoulder tension melt away until you’ve tried dry needling for them. However, if you’re hesitant or curious to learn more, I encourage you to check out my social media accounts on YouTube and Instagram (@CamWongPhysio)!
